In May HMRC announced that they have created a new task force re-opening Operation Gourmet. Initially they will be investigating restaurants within London before moving to Scotland and the North West.

Operation Gourmet commenced almost a decade ago to tackle perceived non-compliance in regards to NIC and alleged tax evasion around troncs in the Restaurant sector. It is clear that there are some examples to be made in what they are referring to as a "high risk trade sector". You can read HMRC's full press release here.

Teresa Payne from BDO says that

"Getting specialist advice early means that you can implement any necessary remedial action, be ready for any HMRC visit and may even highlight the opportunity that a NIC refund may be due. Dealing with an investigation on your own or asking for expert help too late can be an expensive mistake."

Fourth have arranged for an afternoon session to be run by Candey LLP to help companies better understand Troncs and HMRC. Please see below in the get involved section for more details and how to book a place.

Due to huge demand another session introducing metrics has been arranged, metrics allow companies to change the measurements that are displayed on the rota to use alternative targets and success criteria. To book a place visit the training section below.

Delivery scooter Deliverance logo

Deliverance started with two food-lovers called Pat and Rohan who decided one evening over a bottle of wine that takeaways were simply not good enough. That night they banged their fists on tables and declared in loud voices that they would deliver hot delicious restaurant-quality food to people's homes because people deserved it.

They had a passion, their friend Tash had a great name, and so it was that in 1997, armed with one kitchen, two chefs and six bikes, Deliverance fired up its pans and woks and started delivering.

Deliverance was an instant success - but back then 'drizzle' was a word for rain, the most famous Jamie was Theakston and service was something that happened in the States.

12 years later we're a nation of foodies, with dozens of books by celebrity chefs and service is a right not a long shot. Deliverance has amassed tons of know-how about what works. And just as importantly, what doesn't work.

To stay ahead, Deliverance has assembled a new, fantastically experienced team who share the Deliverance obsession: people who love blind tasting puddings and develop sticky indexes for sticky rice, people who dream about insulated bike boxes and 'green' packaging that still keeps food hot and leak free...

In short, the kind of people who are dedicated to making Deliverance as delicious as it can be.

"Being in the Success Process has been very beneficial for Deliverance. It has enabled us to get some much needed training on a wide variety of topics and facets of the FnB platform. It has increased our enthusiasm for the program and has made us less reliant on the help functionality offered by Fourth. The new understanding that we have additionally developed of the program has enabled us to use it in a more efficacious and efficient fashion, which has greatly assisted us in a number of ways."

Hi there, I'm Rachel Clements, Project Co-ordinator for the fnb manager team. I have been with Fourth since January 2009 and in that time I've seen the company grow in size and speed. When I started there were 97 employees and now we have around 183, and we're still growing.

My day often consists of assisting the Project Managers. This can include liaising with customers when the Project Managers are out of the office and helping with any project related queries, to uploading supplier catalogues at the beginning of the project.

I also look after the Managed Service aspect of fnb and currently have 5 clients using my skills on a daily basis. Managed services involves administering the Enterprise side of fnb, processing updates of products and recipes as well as being there for any support-related queries.

What I enjoy most about working for Fourth is the opportunities I have had to develop my skills. In the beginning, I wasn't comfortable enough to train customers, but as I've learnt more about the system and myself, my confidence has improved so much that I really enjoy standing up and training new and existing users of the system. This in turn has allowed me to start taking on board small projects and to date I now have 13 on the go.

Seal of approval

Before entering a closing stock it is best practice to check that all the sales have imported for that period.

To check this, click on Import POS Figures and click Verify and Process PLU Data. There should be no missing PLU's and no Zero Cost Price PLU's.

Once these have been checked and assuming the recipes are correct in fnb, you can be assured that the correct stock is being taken from fnb and that POS figure on the Stock reconciliation is correct.

people system - The ability to show employers pension contribution on employees payslip has recently been developed. In the Payroll Module enter the Administration menu, within Global Settings select Edit Default Payslip Settings, scroll to bottom and tick Show employers pension contribution on payslips.

fnb manager - It's best to ensure all users with the same access level are on the same Security Template and do not have bespoke settings. This will enable quicker and more consistent updating for the future and will avoid messy user settings.

trade simple - If waiting for a report, remember to check the email address configured on the user profile. Click My Profile in the side menu for details. If the report is to be sent to multiple people, use a comma/semicolon after each e-mail address and make sure there are no spaces between them.

star chef - No matter how many recipes you have used an ingredient in, you can replace it with a new one with a few key strokes and without having to access every single recipe. Not only that, if you want to do a bit of value engineering, you can use the same tool to replace the quantity of an item with a new quantity in any group of recipes you want to.
