With the excitement and expectation that the Olympic year brings and the associated
extra tourism and trade, there is important consideration to be made around how to
grow and retain staff talent.
Next year should bring bumper business for bars, restaurants and hotels in the UK
and especially the London area. Companies need to ensure that the level of service
provided is second to none as competition will be fierce. In order to offer unrivalled
service and attract the crowds; companies need to develop their teams and ensure their
brand champions, their product experts and their company ambassadors stay to drive sales.
One of the best ways to retain top performers is by offering them a strong training
and development plan. Fourth Hospitality has teamed up with sector leaders
learnpurple to present a thought leadership event at Fourth's head office
in Covent Garden on the 3rd of November at 16:00.
The session will cover how to harness talent to achieve business success and will
last for around 2 hours with drinks afterwards. To book a place see the
get involved
section later in the newsletter.
Kind regards

Success story

ASK Italian is about a real love for all things Italian. The
food and drink come first, of course, with authentic Italian dishes,
fresh Italian ingredients and carefully chosen wines to complement the meal. Then
there's the real Italian experience - the chatter, the fun, the sharing. And
lastly, inspired by the design of Milan, there's the Italian style that makes
eating out feel special whatever the occasion. From the menu holders to the cutlery,
the tables to the plates - and even the waiters - everything has that flair, warmth
and cuore (heart).
Fourth were asked to get involved to help ASK managers to better understand the
system, offering new functionality as well as brainstorming ideas during their
regional meetings.
"The General Manager's have got a better understanding of the
system and uncovered more useful features. We've seen less errors in
terms of people processing and it answered a lot of queries the guys had."
Kate Ashmore - HR Manager, ASK Italian

Our people

Hi, I'm Claire Thomas, a Senior Relationship Manager at Fourth.
I have been at Fourth just over a year.
I have been in the hospitality IT arena throughout my career. I've worked in
a wide range of of roles: help desk, 2nd line support, data maintenance, QA, procurement,
training and most recently in account management/relationship management roles. Working
in all these areas has given me a solid foundation and the experience to understand and
anticipate the challenges of our business which is key to my current role.
I have also worked on the client side as a business analyst and managing third parties
which has enabled me to really appreciate the importance of developing great partnerships
with suppliers to help drive the business forward through good times and bad.
The individual characteristics and needs of each client in my portfolio ensures that no day
is the same - sometimes I am wearing my Fourth hat, sometimes I am wearing my Client hat and
sometimes I am wearing both! The most rewarding aspect of my role is to see the vast knowledge
and experience across Fourth channelled into helping our customers get the most out of the
solutions and services we provide.

Best practice
|
|
|
|
star chef - It's best practise that when creating suppliers, that
no two suppliers have the exact same name. For example, if you have a supplier
that has a fresh depot and also a frozen depot you should mention this in the
names when creating them or else this can confuse things when deciding which
supplier has which ingredients upon creating new ingredients. It's also
good practise to create your supplier names in a consistent way also - for
example, ABC Suppliers -Fresh and ABC Suppliers -Frozen.

Top tips
|
|
|
| |
people system -
In order to record employees assets such as uniform, keys or phones you should use
the asset management function under employee info in HR.
This will allow you to record exactly what the employee has taken and the date it was
taken. You can also have the option to prevent terminating the employee until you have
entered the date the asset was returned.
fnb manager -
Save time updating your prices by exporting the supplier catalogues. Send the file to
your suppliers to update the prices and then import the catalogue back into fnb.
You must ensure all product codes are set up before exporting the catalogue.
trade simple -
You can amend your market lists to help save time when checking what needs ordering simply
by dragging and dropping items into the 'correct' order for your store room. By
clicking the L icon you can add a label to say which cupboard or shelf the
next lot of products are kept on.
star chef -
You can tag Ingredients and Recipes as favourites which could make searching
for them quicker. You will see an In favourites check box at
the top right hand corner of the item, simply check this and it will be in
your favourites list.
